First Aid Kit - everything what you need to use in emergency situation

First Aid Kit for Kids

A kids first aid kit should include some basic supplies that may be needed for small injuries. Parents should make their child their own first aid kit. This gives the child, not only some neat items to play with and study, but it allows them to practice as well. When an incident happens in the real world, they will know what to do and not freeze up and get scared. Helping your child to learn the basics of first aid may come in handy one day. They may even be part of the team that saves your life one day. All you really need to do is guide them, let them practice the techniques, and ask questions about anything they don't comfortable doing.

When you are trying to figure out what you should place in a kids first aid kit, you first need to think about what kind of problems they can handle for their age group. The most important thing you can place in a kids first aid kit is a list of emergency numbers to call. This way, they don't have to go looking for them. Have 911, the nearest hospital, and both parent's numbers on this sheet. You may also add the grandparents or a close friend who lives nearby.

Other items that should be placed in a kids first aid kit include bandages in all sizes, first aid tape, alcohol wipes, scissors, gloves, ice pack, heat pack, aspirin or acetaminophen, antibiotic cream, tweezers, cotton balls, and some peroxide. All of these items should be quite helpful when cleaning a wound or if they need to apply a bandaid.

Make sure you take the time to explain each item to the child. You should also go over the various uses and times when each item should be used. Let the child ask any and all questions so they will know what they are doing. Be sure to teach to their age group and comprehension levels. For example, for a very young child, maybe some bandaids and alcohol wipes would be a good first aid kit for them. Whereas an eight or nine year old will be able to handle more and learn about the intricacies of each thing in their first aid kit.

The most important thing with a kids first aid kit is to let them handle the stuff and practice using it. Let them practice pulling out a splinter or wiping a wound. You could tape a sliver of wood to your hand and they could practice getting it out. You could pour ketchup on your arm and let them learn how to clean it away. Not only do they learn by you telling them how to do the task, they also learn by practicing it as well. This makes it doubly sure to stay in their memory. Be creative and come up with some very unique situations for them to figure out. It will be worth it in the long run for both of you.

Insect bites are a good time to show them how to crack the ice bag and make it start to get cold. When there is a muscle sprain, you can show them how to work the heat pack then. Many kids find all of these items in their first aid kit quite fascinating. If you can find an inexpensive one, throw a stethoscope in the kit as well. Little ones love to listen to their heartbeat and listen out for other people's too.
